Looking for a Balto alternative?

Balto is a real-time guidance platform: live playbooks, prompts and checklists on the agent's screen while the call happens. CallGuard AI is a compliance scoring product with a live breach-detection layer, built UK-first. They overlap on "real-time", but they solve different problems. This page is the honest comparison.

Balto is genuinely good at in-the-moment guidance.

Balto more or less defined the real-time guidance category, and for the job of steering agents while they speak it is a credible leader. Four things they do well:

Live on-screen playbooks

Dynamic checklists, objection-handling prompts and script guidance that update as the conversation unfolds. If your goal is changing agent behaviour mid-call at scale, this is Balto's home turf.

Real-time supervisor alerting

Supervisors see live calls that need attention and can coach in the moment. Mature workflows for barge-in and escalation across large floors.

Broad language support

Live guidance across a long list of languages and accents, which matters for multilingual floors and offshore operations.

US contact-centre pedigree

Strong references in US insurance, healthcare, collections and sales floors, with playbooks framed around US regimes such as TCPA and mini-Miranda. If that is your regulatory world, the fit is natural.

Guidance is not evidence.

Balto's centre of gravity is prompting the agent. A UK compliance director's problem is proving to the FCA what actually happened on every call. Those are different products:

What the output is built for

Balto also scores conversations against scorecards, but the product is organised around steering agent behaviour while the call happens. CallGuard AI's output is built for the audit file: each scorecard criterion gets a pass or fail with the transcript evidence it was decided on, or a note that none was found.

US regulatory centre of gravity

Balto's compliance framing leads with TCPA, mini-Miranda and US healthcare. The Consumer Duty outcomes a call can evidence, ICOBS 5 demands and needs (and suitability where advice is given), FG21/1 vulnerability and CONC forbearance are not the native vocabulary. UK-regulated firms end up translating.

Quoted for your team size

CallGuard AI's plans are quoted per seat for your team size, with no integration project to begin.

Scoring calibration from compliance corrections

In Balto, your team shapes the guidance by editing playbooks. CallGuard AI is shown your compliance officer's corrections instead: up to five of the most recent corrections on a criterion are shown to the AI as examples when it next scores that criterion. They are examples, not rules — the AI can still reach a different verdict on a call that genuinely differs.

Alert philosophy: prompts vs breaches

Balto surfaces in-call nudges by design. On streamed calls (Pro plan), CallGuard AI's live layer sends an alert only when the model's confidence that a criterion has already failed is 0.75 or higher, as a webhook, HMAC-signed once you set a signing secret, to your CRM or agent desktop. It is built to flag breaches, not to prompt the agent.

Common questions, answered.

Does CallGuard AI do real-time guidance like Balto?

Not today. On streamed calls (Pro plan), CallGuard AI's live layer checks for breaches during the call and sends a webhook to your CRM or agent desktop when it finds one; it does not prompt the agent. A whisper-style in-call coach that nudges the agent directly is on our roadmap, and a roadmap is not a shipped product. If on-screen playbook guidance is your primary requirement right now, Balto is the more mature choice for that specific job.

Can we run CallGuard AI alongside Balto?

Yes. A team can use a guidance tool on the live call and CallGuard AI as the compliance system of record: every call or sale (guided or not) is scored against the scorecard, with transcript evidence, a breach register and coaching drafts. The two do not conflict; they listen to the same audio for different purposes.

How does pricing compare?

Balto does not publish pricing; it quotes on request. CallGuard AI's plans are quoted per seat for your team size, with volume discounts and no multi-year minimum; we do not publish a price. What each plan includes is on the plans page.

How do you handle FCA-regulated firms specifically?

That is a primary design point for CallGuard AI. Firms upload their own scorecards, and for UK advice firms they typically cover ICOBS 5 demands and needs (and suitability where advice is given), FG21/1 vulnerability, and the Consumer Duty outcomes a call can evidence.
